So tonight I ran for 1 hour and 45 minutes. Which is about how long I'll be running for in the half marathon. Tonight was a slow plodding pace, but the key was to just keep going for the right amount of time. It was raining
I found the hardest point was between 1 hour and 1 hour 15 minutes. Around this point my mind starts to wander away from what I'm supposed to be doing, my posture suffers, and I start to feel lonely. It's rather surreal really, and I found myself asking myself if this would be repeated on race day.
My heart tells me no. For one thing, the loneliness factor will be a moot point, because there are over three thousand people running this race. For another, I'm looking forward to the race, and I really wasn't looking forward to going out tonight.
I started craving food around about the 90 minute mark. All of a sudden I would have given my right arm for a bowl of cereal. I would have killed for a bowl of chow mein, and gone as far as a mild flesh wound for a slice of pizza.
These odd mental processes are all part of training, I guess. It's all about the preparation, and I am preparing as well as I can.
Unfortunately, I have a stag do this weekend. Ooops....
