Doing the splits

Well, today, I looked at my mile splits for the half marathon.  For me at least, they make for interesting reading and will help for next year's race:

Mile        Time

1             7.19
2             7.47
3             7.17
4             8.28
5             8.18
6             8.20
7             8.00
8             8.10
9             9.09
10           7.52
11           8.10
12           9.33
13           9.50

I think this proves a couple of things.  First, that I was correct when I thought I set off too fast.  I started to run out of batteries around mile 9 (this was also when my foot bleed started.)

Second, that I need to work on my sprint finishes.  19 minutes for the last two miles is RUBBISH.  On reflection, I don't think I could have given any more in those last two miles, but that has to be better next time.  More than anywhere else in the race, in those closing stages, there are plenty of fellow runners spurring you on.

However, this doesn't always work.  The marshals steered us round one guy who had collapsed about 400 metres from the end.  Poor sod.  You run 12.8 miles and then you faint.  I hope he found something from somewhere to enable him to limp to the finish.

Oh, and something else.  My legs REALLY hurt.  Bike ride to loosen them tomorrow I think.
